"I Felt Compelled To..." Hardik Pandya Admits Following Another Loss for MI
It was Hardik Pandya's 21-ball 34 which pushed MI's total. But things went downhill after he was sent back by Yuzvendra Chahal.
Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya emphasized the need for "greater discipline" and "courage" from his team following their third consecutive loss in IPL 2024. After being asked to bat, MI struggled early on at 20 for 4, failing to recover and finishing with a modest total of 125 for nine in 20 overs. Rajasthan Royals chased down the target comfortably, winning by six wickets with 27 balls remaining.
Reflecting on the defeat, Hardik commented, "We didn't start as we had hoped tonight; it was a tough evening for us." He acknowledged the unpredictable nature of results in cricket but expressed confidence in the team's ability to bounce back, stressing the importance of being disciplined and brave.
Despite Hardik's contribution of 34 runs off 21 balls, MI's performance dipped after his dismissal by Yuzvendra Chahal. Hardik noted, "I believe we were in a decent position to aim for 150 or 160 runs, but my wicket allowed the opposition to regain control of the game. I needed to contribute more."
MI's bowlers, particularly Chahal (3/11) and Trent Boult (3/22), put up a commendable effort, although it wasn't enough to secure a win. Boult, who received the Player of the Match award, credited the early wickets he took, including those of Rohit Sharma and Naman Dhir in the first over.
RR's captain Sanju Samson credited the toss for playing a pivotal role in the match's outcome, highlighting the challenging conditions at the start of the game. Riyan Parag's unbeaten 54 off 39 balls was instrumental in RR's successful chase, with Parag attributing his success to simplifying his approach at the crease.
Overall, the match showcased the competitive nature of IPL 2024, with players like Parag and Boult making significant impacts and setting the stage for an exciting season ahead.
