4 Suspected Sri Lankan ISIS Terrorists Arrested at Ahmedabad Airport

The Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has apprehended four Sri Lankan nationals suspected of being ISIS terrorists at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in Ahmedabad. According to the ATS, the suspects are believed to be associated with the Islamic State and were detained immediately upon their arrival at the airport. Following their arrest, the suspects were taken to a confidential location for thorough interrogation. The exact reason for their presence at the Ahmedabad airport remains uncertain.

Local media reports suggest that the suspects traveled from Sri Lanka to Chennai before reaching Ahmedabad. It has also been reported that they were in communication with handlers based in Pakistan. In response to these arrests, security measures have been intensified throughout the airport.

The detentions coincided with the anticipated arrival of three Indian Premier League (IPL) teams at the Ahmedabad airport for the qualifier and eliminator matches, prompting heightened vigilance.

Earlier this year, in March, two high-ranking ISIS leaders in India were arrested near the international border after crossing over from Bangladesh. These individuals were identified as Harish Ajmal Farooqi, also known as Harish Ajmal Farukhi, from Dehradun in Uttarakhand, and Anurag Singh, also known as Rehan, from Panipat in Haryana.

The swift action by the Gujarat ATS underscores ongoing efforts to counter terrorism and maintain security, particularly in light of recent threats and the presence of high-profile events such as the IPL matches in the region. The collaboration between different states and intelligence agencies highlights the continued vigilance and proactive measures being taken to address potential terrorist activities within India.
