The tragic aftermath of the hoarding collapse in Mumbai's Ghatkopar has left a devastating toll, with the death count climbing to 14, as reported in the early hours of Tuesday. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) conducted relentless rescue efforts throughout the night, aiming to extract survivors trapped beneath the debris. The incident has also left 74 individuals wounded, highlighting the severity of the calamity.

According to NDRF inspector Gaurav Chauhan, the excavation process led to the recovery of eight bodies, while four more remain entombed within the rubble. Despite their location being identified, hazardous conditions, compounded by the proximity of a nearby petrol pump, have hindered their retrieval.

The somber news prompted expressions of condolences from President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar, who conveyed sympathies to the families of the deceased. Their wishes for a prompt recovery were extended to those grappling with injuries inflicted by the collapse.

The tragic event underscores the urgent need for stringent safety measures in the construction and maintenance of structures, emphasizing the imperative of prioritizing public safety to avert such catastrophes in the future. As rescue efforts persist, the community mourns the loss of lives and stands united in supporting the affected individuals and their families during this grievous time.
