An undated video featuring Chungreng Koren, a Manipuri MMA fighter, has gained traction on social media, where he emotionally appeals to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene in the ongoing ethnic violence plaguing Manipur. The video, purportedly taken after a bout at the Matrix Fight Night (MFN), captures Koren's heartfelt plea for peace in his home state, highlighting the dire situation faced by the people affected by the violence.

In the video, Koren expresses concern over the violence that has persisted in Manipur for nearly a year, resulting in numerous casualties and displacing tens of thousands of people. He describes the grim conditions at relief camps, citing shortages of essential supplies like food and water, and the disruption of education for children. Koren implores Modi to visit Manipur and take action to restore peace, emphasizing the uncertainty and despair gripping the region.

Srinivas BV, the Youth Congress president, shared the video on X (formerly Twitter), expressing solidarity with Koren and criticizing the government's response to the crisis. However, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has not issued an official statement regarding the video or the situation in Manipur.

The violence in Manipur stems from tensions between different ethnic groups, particularly the Meiteis and the tribals, including Nagas and Kukis. The conflict escalated following protests against the Meitei community's demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status, leading to widespread unrest and bloodshed. The resurgence of underground militant groups has further fueled the chaos, plunging the region into anarchy.

Recent incidents, such as the abduction of a serving junior commissioned officer (JCO) of the Indian Army from Thoubal district, highlight the severity of the situation. While the JCO was eventually rescued, the incident underscores the volatile security landscape in Manipur, with authorities continuing to grapple with the underlying tensions and violence plaguing the region.
