A massive fire at the Ujjain Mahakal Temple has left 14 people injured.

At least 14 priests sustained injuries following a significant fire outbreak at the Ujjain Mahakal Temple in Madhya Pradesh on Monday. Officials indicated that the fire originated during the early morning 'bhasma aarti' ceremony within the temple's innermost sanctum on the occasion of Holi. "Fourteen priests have suffered burns, with some receiving treatment at the district hospital here, while eight have been taken to Indore for medical attention. A magisterial inquiry, led by Zila Panchayat CEO Mrinal Meena and Additional Collector Anukool Jain, has been initiated with a report expected within three days," stated an official.

"The fire ignited when 'gulal' (colored powder used in rituals) accidentally landed on the puja thali containing burning 'kapoor' (camphor), subsequently spreading across the floor, resulting in a blaze," the official explained.

CCTV cameras installed within the temple captured the incident, according to authorities. Prime Minister Modi expressed deep sadness over the incident, stating, "The incident at the Mahakal temple in Ujjain is distressing. I pray for the swift recovery of all injured devotees. Under the state government's supervision, local authorities are extending all possible assistance to the victims."

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, briefed by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, assured that the local administration would provide comprehensive support to the injured.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia also conveyed their condolences and prayed for the well-being and recovery of those affected by the incident.
