The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has made a strategic decision regarding the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra. Senior party leader Vijay Khumbhar informed The Indian Express that AAP has opted not to contest in Maharashtra. Instead, the party will focus on ensuring unity among Opposition parties and supporting candidates from the INDIA bloc.
As per an agreement with INDIA bloc parties, AAP will contest all seats in Punjab and a few seats in Delhi, Goa, and Gujarat. Khumbhar emphasized that their goal is to collaborate with INDIA bloc partners to defeat the BJP, rather than competing in Maharashtra.
AAP has actively engaged in grassroots efforts in Maharashtra, with leaders like Khumbhar extensively touring the state. Despite their success in local gram panchayat elections, AAP has decided to prioritize other regions for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.
he party intends to contribute to the election campaigns of opposition leaders in various ways. In areas like Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad, AAP has established a foundation that will be utilized for future elections.
AAP's decision not to contest in Maharashtra stems from past experiences, such as their lack of success in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections in the state. This redirection aligns with AAP's broader strategy of expanding into new states like Gujarat while consolidating power in Punjab.
With the Lok Sabha elections approaching, many Opposition parties are focused on preventing vote division, which could indirectly benefit the BJP. AAP's move in Maharashtra reflects this larger trend of strategic collaboration among opposition forces.
