Air India unveils uniforms designed by Manish Malhotra for both cabin and cockpit crews.

On Tuesday, the private carrier Air India unveiled its latest collection of uniforms designed by renowned fashion designer Manish Malhotra, intended for both cabin and cockpit crews. The introduction of these new uniforms is set to occur gradually over the next several months, coinciding with the entry into service of Air India's inaugural Airbus A350 aircraft.

Highlighting the significance of the moment, Campbell Wilson, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director at Air India, emphasized the historical importance of the airline's crew uniforms, expressing confidence that Manish Malhotra's innovative designs will usher in an exciting new chapter for Air India.

The female cabin crew's attire showcases a ready-to-wear ombre saree adorned with intricate patterns reminiscent of Indian heritage architecture, specifically the jharokha, and featuring the Vista, the new Air India logo icon. Paired with a comfortable blouse and blazer, the ensemble aims to capture the essence of India's diverse culture and traditions while embodying a modern and sophisticated look. Manish Malhotra, the designer, expressed his intention to create uniforms that evoke the warmth and hospitality for which India is known, using quintessential hues symbolic of the country.

The collaborative effort between cabin crew representatives, the airline's In-flight services team, and the designer resulted in uniform designs that underwent thorough testing to ensure their suitability. For the cockpit crew, the uniform adopts a traditional black double-breasted suit adorned with a Vista-inspired print, symbolizing professionalism, timeless elegance, and the esteemed nature of the aviation profession.

In addition to the apparel, Manish Malhotra has also designed footwear that blends style with comfort. Female cabin crew members will wear dual-tone block heels in black and burgundy, while their male counterparts will sport comfortable black Brogues. The careful consideration of cultural elements and modern aesthetics reflects Air India's commitment to creating a distinctive and representative identity through its crew uniforms, leaving a lasting impression on both the crew and the passengers they serve.
