BJP MLA Arrested for Allegedly Shooting Shiv Sena Leader in Maharashtra Police Station Altercation

A BJP MLA from Maharashtra, Ganpat Gaikwad, was arrested on Saturday after allegedly shooting at Mahesh Gaikwad, a Shiv Sena leader associated with the faction led by Eknath Shinde, inside the Hill Line Police Station in Ulhasnagar. This incident follows a rivalry between the BJP and Shiv Sena leaders over the Kalyan East Legislative Assembly seat since last year.

During a conversation between Ganpat Gaikwad, Mahesh Gaikwad, and senior inspector Anil Jagtap at the police station, gunfire erupted, resulting in injuries to both Gaikwad and one of his supporters. Mahesh Gaikwad sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment at Thane's Jupiter Hospital.

DCP Sudhakar Pathare stated that the altercation stemmed from differences between Mahesh Gaikwad and Ganpat Gaikwad, leading them to come to the police station to file a complaint. However, during the discussion, Ganpat Gaikwad allegedly fired shots at Mahesh Gaikwad and his associates, injuring two people. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.

According to PTI, DCP Pathare confirmed the arrest of three individuals, including BJP MLA Ganpat Gaikwad, in connection with the Ulhasnagar firing incident, where a total of six rounds were fired.
