BJP's Wayanad candidate Surendran predicts that Rahul Gandhi will experience a similar result as he did in Amethi during the Lok Sabha elections.

BJP Kerala chief K Surendran, who is contesting against Rahul Gandhi in the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat, recently stated that Gandhi would face a similar outcome as he did in Amethi, where he suffered defeat against BJP's Smriti Irani in the 2019 general elections.

Surendran's candidacy was announced in the fifth list of BJP candidates, setting the stage for an intriguing contest in Wayanad. The constituency will witness a three-way battle, with CPI's Annie Raja also in the fray. In the previous elections, the NDA candidate secured only 7.25% of the votes in Wayanad.

Expressing his views to the media, Surendran emphasized the development crisis in Wayanad and criticized Gandhi's lack of contributions to the constituency. He predicted a similar fate for Gandhi in Wayanad as he faced in Amethi.

On the other hand, Annie Raja of the Left parties highlighted that candidatures are not decided based on opponents and stated that their campaign in Wayanad was well underway and gaining positive responses from voters.

Wayanad, known for its mountainous terrain and issues like human-animal conflict, has become a focal point in this election. Various parties have differing approaches to addressing these challenges, with the BJP emphasizing the need for proper implementation of existing laws and the CPI(M)-led LDF and Congress pushing for amendments to the Wildlife (Protection) Act.

In the previous election, Rahul Gandhi contested from Wayanad alongside Amethi, eventually losing Amethi to Smriti Irani. This election cycle sees him defending his Wayanad seat amid a competitive political landscape.
