Gangster Sharad Mohol Fatally Shot by Own Gang Members in Pune: Dispute Over Land and Money Suspected as Motive

Gangster Sharad Mohol was shot dead by his own gang members in Pune. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis ruled out the gang war angle and said that "no one dares to get involved in a gang war" in the state.

On Friday (January 5), Gangster Sharad Mohol was fatally shot by members of his own gang in Pune, Maharashtra, according to the police. Eight suspects were apprehended from a vehicle on the Pune-Satara road, where arms and ammunition were also seized.

The incident occurred around 1.30 pm the previous day when three to four assailants fired at Mohol at close range in the Sutardara locality in Kothrud. Mohol sustained a chest wound and two bullets in his right shoulder, leading to his death during treatment at a private hospital in Kothrud.

The motive behind Mohol's killing is believed to be a dispute within his gang over land and money. Mohol had a criminal record with cases of murder and dacoity, including an accusation in the murder case of suspected Indian Mujahideen operative Mohammad Qateel Siddiqui, for which he was acquitted.

Addressing the media, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis dismissed the possibility of a gang war, asserting that Mohol was killed by his own associates. Fadnavis stated that the government is adept at dealing with such elements, preventing the escalation of a gang war. The police have formed nine teams as part of the investigation into the incident.
