In the Rajya Sabha elections, the BJP has chosen JP Nadda to contest from Gujarat and Ashok Chavan from Maharashtra.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) recently announced its nominees for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections, selecting JP Nadda, the national president, to contest from Gujarat and Ashok Chavan, a former chief minister and ex-Congress member, to contest from Maharashtra. The BJP's list comprises seven candidates, with four from Gujarat and three from Maharashtra. Notably, Nadda, currently representing Himachal Pradesh in the Rajya Sabha, faces challenges due to the party's minority status in the state.

Several Union ministers and outgoing Rajya Sabha members, including Mansukh Mandaviya, Parshottam Rupala, Dharmendra Pradhan, and Narayan Rane, have not been renominated, fueling speculation about their potential roles in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. However, ministers Ashwini Vaishnaw and L Murugan have been renominated for Odisha and Madhya Pradesh respectively, with the backing of Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik's party, making their victory likely.

In addition to Gujarat and Maharashtra, the BJP has fielded candidates from other states like Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Karnataka, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, and Uttar Pradesh. Elections for the 56 Rajya Sabha seats are scheduled for February 27, with the nomination deadline set for February 15.

The impending retirement of several prominent figures, including central ministers and former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, before May this year, coupled with the outcome of the forthcoming general elections, is anticipated to influence the composition of the Upper House for the next term.
