Jay Shah has confirmed that Rohit Sharma will captain the Indian team at the 2024 T20 World Cup.

During an event in Rajkot, BCCI secretary Jay Shah announced that India would participate in the 2024 T20 World Cup, which is slated to take place in the Caribbean and the USA. He confirmed that Rohit Sharma would lead the team, marking a shift from Hardik Pandya's tenure as captain in the shortest format. The decision follows the disappointment of losing to Australia in the 2023 World Cup final, sparking discussions about the return of senior batsmen Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma for the upcoming T20 tournament.

Reflecting on the team's performance in the 2023 World Cup final in Ahmedabad, Shah expressed pride despite not clinching the title after ten consecutive victories. He assured the audience that under Rohit Sharma's leadership, India would strive to bring glory in the 2024 T20 World Cup, aiming to hoist the Indian flag high, especially in the final at Barbados.

During the renaming ceremony of the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium to honor veteran cricket administrator Niranjan Shah, several notable personalities from the cricketing world attended the event. India's head coach Rahul Dravid, skipper Rohit Sharma, along with players like Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Siraj, and Axar Patel, were present, alongside chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar. The occasion also saw the felicitation of Indian cricketers Cheteshwar Pujara, Jadeja, and Jaydev Unadkat.

Former India captains Anil Kumble and Sunil Gavaskar graced the event to honor players from Saurashtra who have achieved significant success in recent times. Gavaskar commended Niranjan Shah for his pivotal role in elevating Saurashtra's cricketing fortunes, highlighting their two-time Ranji Trophy triumphs.

In essence, the event served as a platform to acknowledge cricketing achievements and set the stage for India's campaign in the upcoming T20 World Cup, with Rohit Sharma entrusted to lead the team to victory in Barbados.
