Kohli's Forceful Response to Rohit, Nabi Dispute on 'Sportsmanship'

During the third T20I in Bengaluru, Rohit Sharma expressed his displeasure with Afghanistan's Mohammad Nabi for opting to take two additional runs following a throw from India's wicket-keeper, Sanju Samson, hitting Nabi's legs. The incident unfolded in the first Super Over, where a throw from Samson struck Nabi's pad, resulting in a significant deflection. Seizing the opportunity, Afghanistan decided to capitalize on two extra runs. Rohit Sharma, visibly upset by what he deemed an 'unsportsmanlike' decision, engaged in a heated discussion with Nabi and the umpire, highlighting the perceived unfair advantage for the visiting team. Despite Rohit's objections, the runs were added to Afghanistan's total.

Nabi defended his actions by asserting that he hadn't intentionally obstructed the throw and thus had the right to capitalize on the opportunity. Even Virat Kohli, who intercepted the ball after the deflection, signaled that Nabi shouldn't have taken the additional double, emphasizing that the ball had struck him.

Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra criticized India's protest, particularly in a game where the player ran two extra runs. He cited the incident involving Sanju Samson's throw, Nabi's leg, and the ensuing controversy. Chopra argued that India's complaint was misplaced and suggested they could have restricted Afghanistan to two runs instead of conceding a third due to their objection to the spirit of the game.

Chopra  further  illustrated his point by presenting a hypothetical scenario involving a World Cup final. He questioned whether, in such a crucial match, any team would refrain from taking an extra run that could potentially decide the outcome, emphasizing the practicality over the ethical dilemma.

Ultimately, the extra runs did not significantly impact India, as Rohit Sharma's team emerged victorious in the second Super Over after the first one ended in a tie.
