Meta has filed a lawsuit against its former Vice President regarding an alleged data breach.

Meta, formerly known as Facebook, has taken legal action against one of its former vice presidents, alleging a severe breach of trust after he departed for an undisclosed AI cloud computing startup. Dipinder Singh Khurana, also recognized as T.S. Khurana, had a lengthy tenure at Meta spanning 12 years, during which he rose to a senior position as VP of infrastructure. However, Meta claims that Khurana violated his contractual obligations by absconding with a trove of proprietary and highly confidential documents pertaining to Meta's business operations and personnel.

The lawsuit, filed on February 29 in California state court in Contra Costa County, asserts that Khurana illicitly transferred these documents to his personal accounts on Google Drive and Dropbox just before leaving Meta. Meta contends that Khurana's actions not only demonstrated disloyalty but also had concrete consequences, as at least eight employees whose names appeared on the stolen documents subsequently departed Meta to join Khurana's new venture last year.

According to Meta, Khurana's behavior both during his departure from the company and afterward exhibits a complete disregard for his contractual and legal obligations. A spokesperson for Meta emphasized the seriousness with which the company views such misconduct, stating that Meta is committed to safeguarding confidential business and employee information.

The legal action underscores Meta's determination to address breaches of trust and protect its intellectual property. Khurana's alleged actions not only undermine Meta's trust in its employees but also raise concerns about the potential impact on the company's operations and competitive position in the technology sector. As the lawsuit unfolds, Meta remains steadfast in its efforts to uphold its contractual agreements and defend its proprietary information from unauthorized disclosure or misuse.
