Mohammed Shami was honored with the Arjuna Award by President Droupadi Murmu.

On a Tuesday, India's pace spearhead, Mohammed Shami, stood among a distinguished group of athletes who were bestowed with the prestigious Arjuna Award, an annual recognition for exceptional accomplishments in sports. Shami had played a crucial role in the Indian cricket team's commendable performance as runners-up in both the World Test Championship and the ODI World Cup. Notably, the 33-year-old cricketer emerged as the leading wicket-taker during the World Cup held in India, securing an impressive 24 wickets in just seven matches.

Taking to his social media, Shami expressed his pride in receiving the Arjuna Award during a ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhavan. He extended gratitude to those who supported him through the highs and lows of his career, acknowledging the contributions of his coach, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), teammates, family, support staff, and especially his fans. Promising to continue giving his best for the country, Shami thanked everyone for recognizing his hard work.

Other notable recipients of the Arjuna Award included wrestler Antim Panghal, boxer Mohammad Hussamuddin, and athlete Parul Chaudhary. Meanwhile, badminton duo Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty were honored with the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna award for their remarkable achievements in 2023, securing India's maiden gold in badminton at the Asian Games and clinching titles at the Asian Championships and the Indonesia Open Super 1000.

The list of awardees across various sports disciplines was extensive, encompassing individuals such as Ojas Pravin Deotale (archery), R Vaishali (chess), Diksha Dagar (golf), Krishan Bahadur Pathak and Sushila Chanu (hockey), Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar and Esha Singh (shooting), Sunil Kumar and Antim Panghal (wrestling), and several others who were recognized for their outstanding contributions to their respective fields.
