Naval Officer's Daughter Becomes Youngest Indian to Conquer Mt. Everest from Nepal Side at 16

New Delhi, May 23 (PTI) – Sixteen-year-old Kaamya Karthikeyan has become the youngest Indian to summit Mt. Everest from the Nepal side, as confirmed by the Indian Navy on Thursday. Kaamya, a class 12 student at Navy Children School in Mumbai and the daughter of naval officer Cdr S Karthikeyan, reached the peak on May 20 alongside her father, according to a Navy spokesperson.

This achievement makes Kaamya the second youngest girl globally and the youngest Indian to scale Everest from the Nepal side. With this accomplishment, she has now completed six milestones in her quest to conquer the highest peaks on all seven continents. Kaamya plans to climb Mt. Vinson Massif in Antarctica this December, aiming to become the youngest girl to complete the '7 Summits Challenge.'

The Indian Navy shared her success on social media, posting pictures and congratulating her. "#IndianNavy congratulates Ms. Kaamya Karthikeyan, daughter of Cdr S Karthikeyan, on becoming the youngest #Indian and the second youngest girl globally to summit Mt. Everest from the Nepal side," the Navy's post read. They praised her courage and determination in summiting the highest peaks on six continents and wished her the best for her upcoming Antarctic climb.

Mount Everest continues to attract mountaineers of all ages from around the world, drawn by the challenge and prestige of reaching the world's highest peak.
