Nawab Malik, recently released on bail from jail, caused a stir as he attended the Maharashtra assembly, aligning himself with the Ajit Pawar faction of the Nationalist Congress Party. This move has strained relations with the ally BJP, prompting Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to confront Ajit Pawar, who had joined the alliance in August. Malik, facing accusations related to connections with the underworld, sat alongside Ajit Pawar's group, sparking speculations of a new alignment.

The significant presence of Nawab Malik during the Winter Session's Day One became a major talking point. Following the headlines, Fadnavis penned a letter to Pawar expressing discontent with Malik's inclusion in the ruling alliance. Fadnavis emphasized the importance of the country over political power and urged caution in accepting individuals facing serious allegations.

In his letter, Fadnavis reportedly stated that while individuals should be welcomed if charges against them are disproven, it is inappropriate to integrate them into the alliance when facing such accusations. Meanwhile, Ambadas Danve from the Ajit Pawar faction criticized the BJP and the Shinde faction of the Shiv Sena, questioning their acceptance of Nawab Malik into the alliance after accusing him of corruption for months.
