Rahul and Jadeja's contributions propel India to a commanding position in the match against England.

K.L. Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja played pivotal roles in India's dominance on the second day of the first Test against England at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. As the day concluded, India found itself in a commanding position with a lead of 175 runs and three first-innings wickets still intact. Jadeja remained unbeaten on 81 (155 balls, 7x4, 2x6), showcasing resilience and determination.

Jadeja's innings was marked by two notable instances where he was given out by the on-field umpire, only to successfully challenge both decisions through the Decision Review System (DRS), first when he was on 17 and later at 49. His partnerships with K.L. Rahul (86, 123 balls, 8x4, 2x6), K.S. Bharat (41, 81 balls, 3x4), and the unbeaten Axar Patel (35*, 62 balls, 5x4, 1x6) frustrated the English bowling attack.

England, known for its preference for fast-paced Test cricket, faced the challenge of countering India's spin-dominated approach. Despite reaching the middle with India trailing by 23 runs, Jadeja's resilient partnerships shifted the momentum in India's favor.

In the morning session, India resumed at 119 for one, trailing by 127. Yashasvi Jaiswal (80, 74 balls, 10x4, 3x6) looked set to achieve a century in his first Test innings at home, adding to his debut century in the West Indies. Shubman Gill also displayed intent, trying to overcome his recent struggles in Test cricket.

However, Jaiswal eventually fell after a promising start, giving a return catch to Joe Root. The day concluded with India positioned strongly at 421 for seven, signaling a challenging task ahead for England. As the match progresses, the trio of Jadeja, Axar, and R. Ashwin, who was run out in a mix-up with Jadeja, will be crucial with the ball, further banking on India's spin tradition to maintain their formidable record at home.
