Sonam Malik secured the silver medal in the air rifle event at the Cairo World Cup.

In the debut appearance at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup in Cairo, Sonam Malik showcased her exceptional skills by securing a silver medal in the women's 10m air rifle event. The competition took place at the Egypt International Olympic City Shooting range, where Sonam shot an impressive 252.1 in the final, finishing just 0.9 behind Germany's Anna Janssen, who claimed the gold. Aneta Stankiewicz of Poland secured the bronze in the eight-woman final.

The victory added to India's medal tally at the World Cup, with Divyansh Singh Panwar having earlier clinched gold in the men's event, setting a world record score in the final. In another notable performance, debutant Simranpreet Kaur Brar finished fifth in the women's 25m pistol event, demonstrating her potential at the international level.

During the qualification round, Simranpreet had topped the charts with a score of 586, outperforming renowned shooters like Germany's Doreen Vennekamp and Greece's Anna Korakaki. However, she narrowly missed a podium finish in the final. Unfortunately, other Indian participants, Rhythm Sangwan and Manu Bhaker, could not secure spots in the top eight.

The overall performance at the World Cup positioned India at the top of the leaderboard with two gold and three silver medals after three days of competition. Sonam Malik and Nancy, both making it to the final, had demonstrated their prowess during the qualification round. Although Sonam had a strong start in the final, leading in the early stages, Anna Janssen's consistent high scores ultimately secured the gold, leaving Sonam with a well-deserved silver.

Despite the close competition and the initial prospect of a double podium for India, the final standings saw Poland's Stankiewicz claiming bronze, making it an eventful and successful outing for the Indian contingent in Cairo.
