The Maharashtra Cabinet has granted approval for renaming eight British-era stations in Mumbai.

The Maharashtra Cabinet has approved a proposal to rename eight British-era suburban railway stations in Mumbai. This decision, made during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, affects stations across the Western, Central, and Harbour lines of Mumbai's suburban network, managed by the Central Railway and Western Railway.

The proposed name changes are as follows:
- Currey Road station to Lalbaug
- Sandhurst Road station to Dongri
- Marine Lines station to Mumbadevi
- Charni Road station to Girgaon
- Cotton Green station to Kalachowki
- Dockyard Road station to Mazgaon
- Kings Circle to Tirthankar Parshwanath

Sandhurst Road station, serving both Central and Harbour lines, will now be recognized as two separate stations. Following legislative approval, the proposal will be forwarded to the Union Home Ministry and the Railway Ministry.

Previously, the state government submitted a proposal to rename Mumbai Central station as Nana Jagannath Shankarsheth station. Notably, in 2017, the Union government renamed Elphinstone Road station to Prabhadevi station and added 'Maharaj' to Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, now known as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), reflecting historical and cultural significance.
