The Maharashtra State Backward Class Commission has submitted its findings regarding the Maratha reservation.

The Maharashtra State Backward Class Commission presented its findings regarding the socio-economic status of the Maratha community to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in Mumbai. The report was handed over by the Commission's Chairman, retired Justice Sunil Shukre, in the presence of Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Chief Minister Shinde announced that the report would be discussed in a cabinet meeting scheduled for February 20.

Expressing confidence in the report's findings, CM Shinde stated, "We believe that the reservation for the Maratha community, based on their educational, social, and economic conditions, will pass legal scrutiny. We are committed to implementing OBC reservations or any other necessary measures without adversely affecting the Maratha community."

Furthermore, CM Shinde appealed to quota activist Manoj Jarnage to end his hunger strike, emphasizing the government's proactive steps towards addressing Maratha reservation issues. Meanwhile, Maratha activist Manoj Jarange Patil commenced his fourth hunger strike on February 10, advocating for Marathas' inclusion in the OBC category for reservation benefits and the enactment of legislation regarding Kunbi Maratha lineage.

The Maratha community, led by Jarange Patil, has persistently advocated for educational and job reservations under the OBC classification. However, there is disagreement within the Maharashtra government regarding the inclusion of Marathas under the Kunbi category for reservations, with senior leader Chhagan Bhujbal expressing opposition.

Patil's agitation, which initially started in Vashi, Navi Mumbai, encompasses various demands, including Kunbi certificates for Marathas, free education from preschool to postgraduate levels, and reserved government job positions for Marathas.
