The Raipur stadium experienced a power outage during the 4th T20I between India and Australia, attributed to an outstanding bill of ₹3.16 crore

The Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh stadium in Raipur, where the fourth T20I cricket match between India and Australia is scheduled, is confronting a significant issue shortly before the game. A substantial portion of the stadium is currently without electricity due to an unpaid electricity bill dating back to 2009, amounting to ₹3.16 crore, as reported by NDTV. The failure to settle this outstanding bill led to the disconnection of the stadium's power supply five years ago. Although a temporary electrical connection has been established, it only serves the spectators' gallery and boxes. Consequently, the stadium authorities are planning to utilize generators to power the floodlights during the match.

According to Ashok Khandelwal, Raipur Rural Circle in-charge, the Cricket Association Secretary has applied for an increase in the capacity of the temporary connection. While approval has been granted to upgrade to 1,000 KV, the implementation is still pending. This electricity-related challenge is not new for the stadium, as back in 2018, participants in a half-marathon were surprised by the lack of power supply. It was then revealed that the stadium's electricity dues had been accumulating since 2009.

The stadium's maintenance was initially the responsibility of the Public Works Department (PWD), with the Sports Department taking charge of other expenses. However, both departments have been engaged in a blame game over the unsettled electricity bill. Despite receiving multiple notices from the electricity company, the dues have not been resolved. This financial deadlock has persisted, even though the stadium has hosted three international cricket matches since the power cut in 2018.

The Chhattisgarh State Cricket Sangh (CSCS), has expressed concerns about hosting international matches under these conditions. He noted that for major events, the stadium relies on generators as a temporary solution. Additionally, a temporary connection has been established in the name of CSCS, as reported by PTI.
