Two Senior Doctors from Sassoon Hospital Arrested for Altering Blood Samples of Minor Accused in Pune Porsche Crash

The Pune police have arrested two senior doctors from Sassoon General Hospital for allegedly altering the blood sample of a minor accused in a fatal Porsche crash. Dr. Ajay Taware, head of the forensic medicine department, and Dr. Shrihari Harnol were detained, as confirmed by Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar.

The incident occurred on May 19 when a 17-year-old boy, driving a Porsche under the influence of alcohol, allegedly struck and killed two young engineers, Aneesh Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta, at the Kalyani Nagar junction in Pune. Bystanders at the scene apprehended and handed over the boy to the police. An FIR was filed at Yerwada police station around 8 a.m., and the boy was subsequently taken to Sassoon Hospital for a medical examination, where his blood samples were collected around 11 a.m. Commissioner Kumar acknowledged a delay in the blood sample collection.

During the investigation, it was discovered that the doctors had allegedly altered the boy's blood sample before it was sent for forensic testing to determine the alcohol content. As a precaution, the police had taken an additional blood sample from the minor for DNA testing later that evening.
